PT Pindad is displaying a Harimau armoured personnel carrier (APC) for the first time at the ongoing Indo Defence. The APC is also fitted with a Remote Controlled Weapon Turret (RWCS). PT Pindad and the Turkish firm FNSS inked a “KAPLAN Armored Personnel Carrier (KAPLAN APC) Development and Production Agreement,” in late October 2024.

This development is being undertaken to meet the Indonesian army’s requirement for a 30-ton class tracked personnel carrier. A conceptual design model of the KAPLAN APC was shown for the first time at the SAHA Expo in Istanbul, last year.

Manufacturing activities for the Indonesian APCs are to start this year, with the first vehicle produced at FNSS facilities in Türkiye and the second by PT Pindad in Indonesia. Deliveries of the order will commence towards the end of 2026 and qualification tests will be carried out by FNSS and PT Pindad in Turkey and Indonesia, respectively.

The development of the Harimau APC builds on the success of the original Harimau programme between FNSS and PT Pindad, which delivered a light tank for the Indonesian Army. As per FNSS, the long-term cooperation agreement for serial production of the KAPLAN MT (HARIMAU) Medium Weight Class Tank and the implementation of the technology transfer model, played a significant role in the Indonesian Ministry of Defence’s preference for FNSS and PT Pindad in the Tracked Armored Personnel Carrier program.

The Harimau APC’s design architecture will feature advanced ballistic protection, best-in-class mine protection systems, and formidable firepower, ensuring superior survivability in combat scenarios. It will be able to accommodate a crew of 13 personnel, including driver, commander, and a gunner. The integration of an open architecture electronics infrastructure, will allow for the easy integration of various mission-critical systems, including a Battlefield Management System and 360° Situational Awareness System that provides both day and night vision for the crew. The vehicle will be equipped with an automatic fire suppression system, an A/C system, and CBRN system, achieved through maintaining a sealed internal environment
