Teledyne FLIR Defense unveiled SkyCarrier, an autonomous launch and recovery platform for uncrewed aerial systems (UAS), on the opening day of DSEI 2025.
SkyCarrier is designed to work with Teledyne FLIR’s SkyRaider and SkyRanger drones, enabling them to autonomously launch and land from a variety of moving or stationary platforms from ground vehicles and maritime vessels to fixed installations.
The system consists of a ruggedised container with a fold-out landing pad, supported by visual markers and beacons that guide aircraft back to the platform without operator input. It can also operate in GPS-degraded environments using computer vision and dead reckoning, extending mission reliability in contested areas.
According to the company, SkyCarrier can manage up to 16 drones simultaneously for coordinated operations. The platform supports both free-flight and tethered operation, while also providing autonomous charging and thermal management for sustained missions. Tested aboard ships and land vehicles travelling at speeds of up to 50 km/h, the system has demonstrated resilience in demanding conditions.
SkyCarrier’s modular design allows it to carry and launch payloads suited for a wide range of roles, including, Intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR), Electronic warfare (EW), Signals intelligence (SIGINT) and Communications relay. With SkyCarrier, Teledyne FLIR is aiming to give armed forces and security operators the ability to extend operational reach while reducing manpower demands.
