Diamond Aircraft’s DA62 MSA (Mission Surveillance Aircraft) is now available with Leonardo’s Gabbiano Ultra-Light TS-80 radar. Leonardo and Diamond Aircraft Industries will work together to ensure that the TS-80 radar fitted on DA62 MSA’s will be integrated onto the on-board ATOS (Airborne Tactical Observation and Surveillance) mission system. The new radar will confer a long-range surveillance capability on the platform, widening the range of missions it can perform and expanding its market potential.
Both companies expect that the integration work will be completed by early next year. The new TS-80 radar will be avail- able as an ‘off-the-shelf’ fit, for long-range surveillance capability as compared to the Gabbiano Ultra-Light TS-20 radar, that is offered as standard on the DA62 MSA.
Like the Gabbiano Ultra-Light TS-20, the Gabbiano Ultra-Light TS-80 comes equipped with the full Gabbiano family mode suite, which includes air-to-sea surveillance with Track While Scan (TWS), high resolution ground mapping (Spot/ Strip-SAR), ship target imaging and classification with ISAR mode and navigation with ground mapping and weather avoidance.
The TS-80 has a power output of 80 watts. The radar also offers a highly competitive Mean-Time-Between-Failure (MTBF) rate of 2500 hours and a 360° antenna group with wide-elevation scan (+20°/-55°). 14 international customers have signed up for Gabbiano-family radars which have been installed on a wide variety of plat- forms.
