DRDO HELINA ATGM Cleared on Indian Rudra Armed Helicopter

Our Bureau - : Apr 12, 2022 - : 1:01 pm

India’s Ministry of Defence (MoD) has announced another succesful test of the indigenously developed helicopter launched Anti-Tank Guided Missile (ATGM) ‘HELINA’, which paves the way for its integration on the HAL built Dhruv Mk IV ‘Rudra’ armed helicopter.

The HELINA ATGM is developed by the Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO).

The ATGM was successfully flight tested on April 11, 2022 at high-altitude ranges as part of user validation trials. The latest trials were in continuation of validation trials conducted at the Pokhran desert range in Rajasthan.

The flight trials were conducted from a Rudra armed helicopter, which is based on the Dhruv Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH). The missile fired from the helicopter successfully engaged a simulated tank target.

The flight-test was jointly conducted by the teams of scientists from Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Indian Army and Indian Air Force (IAF).

The HELINA is guided by an Imaging Infra-Red (IIR) Seeker operating in the Lock on Before Launch mode.

The trials were witnessed by senior Army commanders and senior scientists of the DRDO.
