DRDO’s Integrated Weapons System Design Center in Hyderabad Opens

The Integrated Weapons System Design Centre at Defence Research and Development Organisation‘s APJ Abdul Kalam Missile Complex in Hyderabad was officially inaugurated by Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu on Monday.

The design centre is expected to enhance the capability in design and development of command and control systems for surface-to-air missile (SAM) systems and ballistic missile defence (BMD) systems, according to DRDO.

DRDO’s success in developing a range of indigenous defence systems RDO was one of the reasons why the Indian government went ahead with its decision to ban the import of 101 items, Naidu said in his address. Efforts by DRDO have led to phenomenal technological advancements in the form of successful missions such as HSTDV, SMART, ATGM, NGARM, HELINA, NAG and  BRAHMOS, Naidu added.

Apart from the design facility, Naidu also inaugurated a new missile technology exposition and seminar hall  on the same campus.
