Dubai International Airport (DXB) handled 23.4 million passengers during the first quarter of 2025, marking a 1.5% year-on-year increase and reinforcing its status as the world’s busiest international airport. The rise in traffic, achieved despite a record-breaking performance in the same period last year, reflects Dubai’s continued global appeal and DXB’s role as a key international hub.
January 2025 was a standout month, with DXB registering 8.5 million passengers—the highest monthly total in its history. This was supported by high demand during the seasonal peak, spring break, and Eid holidays, as well as coordinated efforts across airport operations.
India remained DXB’s leading source of traffic with 3 million passengers, followed by Saudi Arabia (1.9 million), the United Kingdom (1.5 million), Pakistan (1 million), the United States (804,000), and Germany (738,000). Among cities, London led with 935,000 passengers, followed by Riyadh (759,000), Jeddah (627,000), Mumbai (615,000), and New Delhi (564,000). Notable traffic increases were recorded to leisure destinations including the Czech Republic (+30.6%), Vietnam (+28.6%), and Spain (+20.2%).
Flight movements rose by 1.9% to 111,000, with an average of 215 passengers per flight. Baggage handling systems processed over 21 million bags, maintaining a mishandling rate below 1.95 per 1,000 passengers—equivalent to a 99.8% success rate.
Cargo volumes, however, declined by 3.6% year-on-year, with the airport handling 517,000 tonnes during the quarter.
Operational efficiency was supported by the use of real-time monitoring and biometric controls, with over 95% of passengers experiencing minimal wait times. Accessibility efforts were expanded, including services for People of Determination and those with hidden disabilities.
DXB also received two major accolades in Q1. It was named the world’s busiest international airport by Airports Council International (ACI) for the 11th consecutive year and received the Gallup Exceptional Workplace Award, reflecting Dubai Airports’ emphasis on employee engagement and organisational culture.
Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports, said: “Our Q1 performance sets a strong foundation for the year ahead, not only in terms of guest numbers, but in the calibre of the people behind them. Delivering the busiest month in DXB’s history while maintaining exceptional service levels cross baggage, guest flow, and accessibility is no small feat. It requires precision, agility, and an extraordinary team effort.”
Griffiths attributed the performance to the efforts of the wider ‘oneDXB’ community, comprising Dubai Airports staff, government partners, airlines, and commercial operators. The airport also highlighted individual moments of service, including the return of a lost bag containing AED 102,000 and personal documents within 30 minutes, and a departing guest being allowed extra time for a family farewell—an act that drew public praise from the UAE’s Vice President, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
As of the end of Q1 2025, DXB connects travellers to 269 destinations across 106 countries via 101 international airlines.
