Ireland-based ECT Aviation has acquired its first Britten-Norman BN2T-4S Islander aircraft to support the launch of dedicated cargo operations between Europe and North Africa. The aircraft will be used on high-frequency freight routes, including services between Lyon Saint Exupéry Airport (LFLL) and several destinations in North Africa.
Operations will be conducted in cooperation with aviation services provider AVICO, focusing on time-sensitive and high-value cargo such as pharmaceuticals, artwork, precious metals, and critical documents.
ECT Aviation, which is headquartered at Lyon Bron Business Airport (LFLY) and registered in Dublin, currently operates a Pilatus PC-12 NGX for business aviation and medical evacuation services across Europe. The addition of the BN2T-4S marks its move into scheduled cargo operations, with services expected to commence by late 2025 following delivery of the aircraft in autumn. Flights will be operated under a German Air Operator Certificate (AOC) through Pro Air.
The company has also signed a Letter of Intent for a second BN2T-4S, with delivery planned for early 2026.
The BN2T-4S is the largest version of the Islander utility aircraft, featuring twin Rolls-Royce 250 B17F turboprop engines (400 hp flat-rated), an extended fuselage, and approximately 30% more internal cabin space. With a maximum take-off weight of 8,500 lbs, it offers a range of up to 805 nautical miles (1,491 km) and more than seven hours of endurance. Its short take-off and landing capability enables it to operate from remote or less developed airstrips.
The aircraft will be fitted with Garmin’s G600 TXi glass cockpit suite, including 10-inch primary flight displays, GTN 750/650Xi navigation and communication units, and ADS-B Out transponders.
Fabrice Jounot, Managing Director at ECT Aviation, stated: "We’ve seen consistent demand from clients needing fast, flexible logistics into regions that are underserved by traditional carriers. The BN2T-4S offers the right combination of rugged performance and modern avionics to deliver reliable cargo operations, even into short or remote runways. It’s a highly capable platform that supports our strategy to grow specialised air freight between Europe and North Africa."
