EDGE Group's precision engineering entity, EPI, has entered into a serial production agreement with Airbus Defence and Space, a division of Airbus Group. This contract follows a successful prototyping phase for the C295 Cargo Compartment Removable Tanks (CCRT).
The contract outlines a five-year collaboration for the production of these tanks, building on the earlier prototyping achievements. These included 12 aerospace-specific process accreditations and the integration of 300 fabricated parts and 16,000 fasteners. The process also involves testing for centre of gravity and leak resistance. This partnership supports EPI’s shift towards assembling aircraft subsystems.
The deal aligns with the UAE's ‘Make It in the Emirates’ initiative, highlighting EDGE’s commitment to advancing technological practices and fostering economic growth. It is also expected to lead to substantial knowledge transfer between the companies.
The agreement was signed by Michael Deshaies, CEO of EPI, and Anna Jacobs, Head of Assemblies and Materials Commodity at Airbus Defence and Space, with key figures including Hamad Al Marar, Managing Director and CEO of EDGE, and Jean-Brice Dumont, Head of Air Power at Airbus Defence and Space, in attendance.
Michael Deshaies said: “Our partnership with Airbus Defence and Space to produce CCRT is a testament to our commitment to excellence and innovation. Part of EPI’s main strategy is to expand our portfolio by diversifying operations and building dynamic local and international partnerships with key players in the industry that we can leverage to build our supply chains, capabilities, and expertise. This collaboration is in alignment with EDGE’s ongoing effort to localise advanced technology and industrial capabilities, reinforcing the UAE’s position as a leading competitive industrial base in various sectors.”
Jean Brice Dumont said: “This strategic partnership with EPI on the C295 reinforces our commitment to the UAE’s aerospace sector, aligning closely with the nation’s long-term vision for economic diversification and innovation. Through this agreement, Airbus is dedicated to enhancing the UAE’s industrial and defence landscape while investing in future collaborative projects, including the strategic transport airlifter.”
The CCRT tanks, co-developed by Airbus and EPI, are intended for various military and aviation operations, including ground and air-to-air refuelling, as well as extended range missions. This collaboration underscores Airbus’ ongoing dedication to advancing the defence and aviation industries while strengthening local industrial capacities. The agreement also opens the door for further collaboration in the UAE's aerospace sector, particularly with the future A400M programme.
The signing ceremony took place at the EPI facility, alongside the delivery of a completed C295 CCRT at the Tawazun Industrial Park.
