Egypt Participates in Medusa 7 Exercise

Egyptian military forces are undertaking joint military exercises with the armed forces of Greece and Cyprus in the seventh edition of the trilateral Medusa exercises. Egypt has sent its new helicopter carrier ‘Anwar El Sadar’ and the frigate Elli to take part in Medusa 7, which is being conducted west of Crete Island. Egypt’s Minister of Defence and Military Production Mohamed Zaki along with his Greek and Cypriot counter- parts Panos Kammenos and Savvas Angelides attended the exercises.

 

The drills include implementing marine and air combat and reconnaissance operations, training on maritime interception skills in addition to searching for and detecting submarines and securing naval units against hostile aircraft through the use of different kinds of air defence weapons. Cadets from the Egyptian Naval Academy are also taking part in the military exercise. Egypt and Cyprus are active partners, in the Medusa exercises, along with Greece, while countries from the Middle East, NATO and the European Union are observing the exercise.
