EgyptAir has formalised its fleet modernisation programme by taking delivery of its first Airbus A350-900, marking the type's debut with a North African operator. The aircraft is the first of 16 units on order and is expected to anchor the carrier’s network expansion. From its Cairo hub, EgyptAir intends to utilise the A350-900 to launch new non-stop services to the US West Coast and North Asia.
The newly delivered widebody joins an existing Airbus contingent at the airline, which currently includes eight A320neo, seven A321neo, and 11 A330 family aircraft, of which five are A330-200P2F freighters. The A350-900 is configured in a two-class layout, providing 340 seats in total: 30 Business Class suites featuring direct aisle access and 310 Economy Class seats. The cabin is fitted with the Airspace interior, designed to improve passenger and crew ergonomics during long-haul operations.
Technologically, the A350-900 offers a maximum range of 9,700 nautical miles (18,000 kilometres). Its construction incorporates lightweight materials and is powered by latest-generation Rolls-Royce engines. These features contribute to a 25 per cent reduction in fuel burn, operating costs, and carbon dioxide emissions when compared to previous-generation competitor aircraft.
In line with current environmental targets, the aircraft is certified to operate with up to 50 per cent Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), with Airbus aiming for 100 per cent SAF capability by 2030. As of late January 2026, the A350 family has secured more than 1,500 orders from 67 customers globally.
