Egypt has become a key player regarding the military systems in the region, which has enhanced its capability to host an international exhibition of defense and military industries titled “EDEX 2018” for the first time ever at the Egypt International Exhibition Center (EIEC).
Over the past five years, Egypt has drastically increased its arms imports, making it the third largest destination for weapons in the world. Cairo has not only embarked upon massive arms purchases over the last four years, it has also sought to diversify the origin of its equipment.
“The first tri-service defence exhibition, supported by Egyptian Armed Forces, presents a new opportunity for industry’s leading companies to demonstrate the latest military and security technology, equipment and systems across land, sea & air,” says Egypt’s military spokesman Tamer El-Refai.
More than 300 major Egyptian and international defense industry companies are participating. According to the military spokesman 41 countries are taking part in the event organized under the auspices of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
Egypt has historically maintained continuous investment in the latest weaponry as a defence strategy and has strengthened national production lines across a range of military complexes.
