ELT Group has introduced KARMA (Kinetic Anti-drone Mobile Asset), a new AI-driven counter-unmanned aerial system (C-UAS) available in both mobile and fixed configurations. Designed to detect, recognise, and identify Class 1 and Class 2 drones, KARMA uses artificial intelligence algorithms to enhance the effectiveness of its onboard sensors and effectors. The system is intended to protect military assets and critical infrastructure from emerging aerial threats.
Building on ELT Group’s earlier C-UAS system, ADRIAN (Anti-Drone Interception Acquisition Neutralisation), which has been in service since 2015, KARMA reflects updated operational requirements driven by evolving geopolitical and military contexts.
KARMA uses a radarless design, making the system electromagnetically silent and harder to detect. This low-signature approach is a response to the shifting demands of today’s security environment. It provides continuous 360-degree surveillance through an infrared camera system integrated with AI-enabled Track While Scan functionality, allowing persistent monitoring without emitting radar signals.
The system’s Command and Control unit features a user-friendly human-machine interface and incorporates advanced AI algorithms to optimise detection, recognition, and identification tasks. This generates a detailed and reliable Local Air Picture (LAP) for operators. Identified threats can be shared with a connected fire control system, which may initiate a hard-kill response if authorised by the operator.
KARMA also includes a radio frequency (RF) sensor capable of detecting and identifying drone communication protocols, allowing it to extract actionable intelligence for threat mitigation. A built-in jammer module enables the system to transmit RF jamming signals toward identified drones. It is designed to handle scenarios involving multiple drone incursions.
Modular and scalable, KARMA can be integrated into larger air defence networks or configured for standalone operations. It supports both military and civilian applications, including border control and infrastructure protection. Compatible with a variety of vehicle platforms, the system offers real-time airspace monitoring and threat response across a range of operational environments.
