Eurotorp, the French-Italian consortium between Naval Group, Thales & Leonardo is eyeing growing prospects in the region for its modern sea-proven MU90 lightweight torpedo.
Speaking to Daily News at the show, a company official said Eurotorp was promoting the MU90 with an eye on the regional market. Eurotorp now has a total of 13 customers, with the latest remaining undisclosed as of now. A full-size dummy MU90 torpedo is being displayed at the show.
Eurotorp is the design authority and in charge of sales & programme management of the MU90 and its associated systems.
In February 2023, OCCAR-EA Director Joachim Sucker and the Director of EuroTorp Giovanni Oliveri signed the contract for the In-Service Support of the Light Weight Torpedo (LWT) MU90.
The LWT Programme covers In-Service Support (ISS) for the MU90 torpedoes that the Participating States currently have in service. It builds on a 30-year joint development and production programme between France and Italy to meet 21st century Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) operational requirements, including shallow water and submarine hunting-killing capabilities.
The MU90 is sea proven with more than 300 sea trials, including live firings in North and South hemispheres and over 1,000 units produced. The MU90 can be operated without any performance degradation from any type of platform such as surface vessel, fixed and rotary wing aircraft and missiles.
