Qatar-based Barzan Holdings, which has grown rapidly since its inception in 2016 to become a leading global defence technology company, is showcasing its growing portfolio of products at the ongoing IDEX.
“Our expectation is not only to partner with companies but also to make sure that we put ourselves on the world defence map and sell our products across the world,” Abdullah Hassan Al-Khater, Barzan Holdings Group CEO, tells Atul Chandra, GBP Daily News Editor, in an exclusive interview.
Edited excerpts from the interview
Please elaborate on the company’s presence at IDEX?
At IDEX, we are placing a greater emphasis on autonomous systems and our Commanding & Control (C2) systems. This is what we are showcasing more broadly this time. Our C2 systems have been developed in house by Barzan and Barzan affiliates. On top of this, we are also seeing strong interest in our existing portfolio of products. At Barzan Holdings, we are thankful to the support of our country’s leadership. I would say Barzan is the only defence company in Qatar to have this kind of success in such a short period of time. This would never have happened without the support of our national leadership.
How important is the development of Barzan’s C2 capability?
It is a great achievement, especially if you look at Barzan's age and how we have been able to develop our iC2 systems in-house. We will be independent when it comes to our C2 systems and this can be applicable across multiple platforms such as autonomous systems, ground systems, naval systems, and aerial systems. Later on, for example, we could have joint command control capability for multiple systems, whether these are on land or sea.
3. What are your expectations from this edition of IDEX?
IDEX is one of the premier defence exhibitions in the region and, and to be honest with you, in the world as well. You can see from the size and the number of participants and companies. It is a very global show. When you look at the delegations visiting IDEX, you can see that they are coming from all over the world. Our expectation is not only to partner with companies but also to make sure that we put ourselves on the world defence map and sell our products across the world. We're not just targeting sales in the region, but targeting customers across the world. That is our primary focus at IDEX.
