In an effort to differentiate itself in the Indian fighter tender for 110 aircraft, US aircraft manufacturer, Lockheed Martin has renamed the aircraft as the F-21.
Company officials say that the F-21 has been specifically configured for the Indian Air Force (IAF) and features an India specific manufacturing offer, with high levels of Transfer of Technology (ToT).
“The F-21 is different, inside and out,” said Dr. Vivek Lall, vice president of Strategy and Business Development for Lockheed Martin Aeronautics. “The new [F-21] designation highlights our commitment to delivering an advanced, scalable fighter aircraft to the Indian Air Force that also provides unrivalled industrial opportunities and accelerates closer India-US cooperation on advanced technologies.”
Lockheed Martin has already partnered with Tata Advanced Systems for production of the F-21 in India.
