Fincantieri has delivered the first-in-class OPV – Offshore Patrol Vessel – “Musherib,” ordered by the Qatari Ministry of Defence. The delivery took place today at the Muggiano (La Spezia) shipyard.

The acquisition of the OPV is part of Qatar’s national naval acquisition program. As part of the program, Fincantieri will deliver another OPV this year, four corvettes over 100 meters long, and one amphibious vessel (LPD – Landing Platform Dock). The entire cost of the program is about 4 billion euros.

OPV “Musherib,” designed in compliance with the RINAMIL for Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) rules, is capable of performing several services ranging from surveillance to combat functions. About 63 meters long and 9.2 meters wide, the OPV has a maximum speed of 30 knots and is able to accommodate up to 38 crew members.

It may be recalled that last October, Fincantieri delivered “Al Zubarah,” the first-in-class of 4 corvettes of the same program, to Qatar.
