Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri has entered into an agreement with iGenius, a Milan-based scale-up specialising in Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies. The collaboration aims to develop AI systems based entirely on an Italian platform.
“In order to enable Artificial Intelligence in our Group, we started by selecting the most promising concrete cases and the most avant-garde players, which guarantee, on the one hand, access to the best technologies, and on the other hand, the confidentiality of the processed data, thus protecting our know-how,” said Pierroberto Folgiero, Fincantieri's Chief Executive Officer and General Manager.
“In this sense, the agreement with an internationally recognized Italian player such as iGenius represents a milestone for the Group and reaffirms its vocation of systemizing the excellence of our country,” he added.
“We are thrilled to undertake this collaboration with a global leader of the calibre of Fincantieri. This partnership represents a convergence of technological excellence and long-term vision, with the aim of introducing innovative generative artificial intelligence solutions made in Italy that will redefine the standards of efficiency, safety and sustainability in the shipping industry,” said Uljan Sharka, CEO of iGenius
The partnership leverages iGenius' expertise in AI model development and Fincantieri's know-how as a systems integrator across various value-added sectors in shipbuilding. Practical applications will be explored in both civil and defence domains, starting with data analysis support for Fincantieri's Omega 360 radar.
This initiative aligns with Fincantieri's broader AI development plan, which seeks to enhance product and process performance, safety, and efficiency. iGenius, founded in 2016 by Uljan Sharka, focuses on business intelligence platforms powered by Generative AI. Their custom configurations enable natural language access to data, catering to end-user needs.
