Florida Secures Relativity Space Expansion, Signs UK Space Partnership

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced Wednesday that U.S. aerospace company Relativity Space will expand its operations on Florida's Space Coast, a move expected to bring significant capital investment and create thousands of high-skilled jobs as the state strengthens its position in the global commercial space industry.

The announcement was made at the Farnborough International Airshow 2026, where Florida also signed a memorandum of understanding with the UK Space Agency (UKSA) to deepen cooperation on space technology, research, innovation and commercial development.

The agreement between Space Florida, the state's aerospace development agency, and UKSA builds on a broader partnership established between Florida and the United Kingdom in 2023 and is intended to promote joint projects, technology development and investment opportunities in the growing space sector.

"The Free State of Florida anchors the international space economy," DeSantis said. "The announcements at the Farnborough International Airshow reinforce our position as a leader in the international space race by creating pathways for innovation, investment and opportunity."

State officials said Relativity Space's expansion will strengthen Florida's role as a leading commercial space hub as global demand grows for launch services, reusable rockets and advanced aerospace manufacturing.

The company, known for developing reusable launch vehicles and large-scale additive manufacturing technologies, is expanding its manufacturing and launch operations on Florida's Space Coast, home to the Kennedy Space Center and Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.

Officials said the partnership with the UK Space Agency is designed to encourage collaboration between businesses, research institutions and government agencies, supporting innovation and expanding commercial opportunities for both sides.

Florida and the United Kingdom have also deepened their economic relationship in recent years. According to the governor's office, bilateral merchandise trade exceeded US$4.1 billion in 2025, including US$1.3 billion in Florida exports and US$2.8 billion in imports from the UK. The United Kingdom is also Florida's largest source of foreign direct investment employment, accounting for roughly one in five international investment-related jobs in the state.

The announcements reflect increasing competition among governments to attract investment in commercial space, advanced manufacturing and next-generation aerospace technologies as the global space economy continues to expand.
