Sabre Corporation (NASDAQ: SABR), a leading software and technology provider that powers the global travel industry, today announced that new low cost South Korean carrier Fly Gangwon has selected Sabre to be its first global GDS partner to deliver flight content to hundreds of thousands of travel agents worldwide, while powering recovery, reaching new customer segments and driving higher sales.
Launched in 2016 and making its inaugural flight during 2019, Yangyang-based Fly Gangwon flies domestically as well as regionally to the Philippines, Taiwan and Vietnam and has ambitious future expansion plans to scale operations to Vietnam and China. Being part of Sabre’s extensive, global GDS network will make Fly Gangwon’s content available to travel agents for the first time, enabling the carrier to target a broader geographic market, to reach new customer segments and secure higher yield business.
“Fly Gangwon’s company slogan is Fly to Your Dream and we’re thrilled that the airline has selected Sabre to help make more of those dreams happen,” said Rakesh Narayanan, Vice President, Regional General Manager, Asia Pacific, Travel Solutions Airline Sales. “As the domestic and regional markets continue to recover first and fastest, it’s clear that low cost carriers such as Fly Gangwon have a key role to play in the initial and long-term recovery of the travel ecosystem. LCCs will be vital to aid the recovery of the hospitality industry as well as to instill confidence in flying again so travellers feel comfortable to travel further afield once more international routes re-open. This new agreement is testament to Sabre’s support for all carriers, whether low cost or full service and whether they have been established for a matter of months or several decades. We’re delighted to be able to support Fly Gangwon and all of our travel partners worldwide as we all look to recovery, and future growth, together.”
“This is an important and exciting new milestone for Fly Gangwon and, as such, we needed the right global distribution partner with robust, intuitive, flexible and far-reaching solutions to enable us in our goal of exponentially extending our geographic reach so more travellers can discover what our destinations have to offer,” said SeongGil Cho, Executive Vice President, Fly Gangwon. “While we flew our very first flight just months before the impact of Covid-19 was felt globally, we remain resolutely focused on our goals of resuming existing routes and launching new routes to China amid increasing momentum for inbound attraction into South Korea. Yangyang Airport has implemented visa-free entry measures for group tourists from certain markets such as Vietnam and the Philippines and being part of the Sabre GDS, with access to hundreds of thousands of agents across the globe and the ability to effectively sell our products and services, including ancillaries, will ensure that we can grow our business by making the most of every seat as more travellers experience what South Korea, and our wider region, have to offer.”
