Flyadeal Cancels 737MAX order, to Buy 30 A320neos

: Jul 11, 2019 - : 8:47 am

Saudi Arabian budget carrier Flyadeal has reversed a commitment to buy as many as 50 Boeing 737MAX jets and will instead operate an entirely Airbus fleet. The airline will buy 30 A320neo-family planes instead of the 737 Max aircraft .
Flyadeal will take delivery starting 2021 of 30 Airbus A320neo aircraft, with an option for a further 20 planes from the A320neo family.
“We understand that Flyadeal will not finalize its commitment to the 737MAX at this time given the airline’s schedule requirements,” Boeing said Sunday. “We wish the Flyadeal team well and hope we can support their fleet and operational needs in the future.”
The provisional order with Boeing was worth US$5.9 billion. The 30 Airbus A320neo planes is worth US$5.5 billion. The carrier is among the first to fully switch to Airbus as problems with the Max continue.
Boeing is hoping to submit a fix for the 737 Max to the FAA and other regulatory bodies in September. The company hopes that the aircraft will be flying again by the end of the end of the year.
flyadeal is not the only airline having second thoughts about their 737 Max orders. Oman Air has said that it would consider initiating discussions with Airbus for new aircraft if Boeing didn’t provide support and a recovery plan for the Max. flydubai is also exploring the option of ordering A320neos as replacements for the Max jets.
