The Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) has received four additional Fast Interceptor Craft (FIC) G2000 MKII vessels at the TLDM base in Kota Kinabalu, Teluk Sepanggar on Wednesday (Mar. 12). This marks the second phase of delivery, following the first batch handed over on 11 January last year.
The recent handover ceremony was witnessed by the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Defence, Datuk Lokman Hakim Ali. The signing of the Handover Certificates was officiated by Gading Marine Industry Managing Director, Datuk Ir Jamalolail Mohd Yatim, and Deputy Secretary of the Procurement Division, Hazlin Selamat.
Gading Marine Industry Sdn. Bhd. delivered the first batch of four units in January 2024, with the remaining five vessels expected by the end of this year. The newly delivered boats will be deployed to Sandakan, bolstering maritime security in Eastern Sabah’s waters and serving as a force multiplier for the navy.
The entire fleet, comprising 13 vessels valued at approximately RM120 million, is armed with a 12.7mm Remote-Controlled Weapon Station (RCWS), enhancing firepower compared to the earlier FIC MK I series. Each 18-meter vessel is equipped with the Escribano RCWS, enabling automated firing of the CANiK M2 Quick Change Barrel (QCB) 12.7mm Heavy Machine Gun (HMG).
The FIC G2000 MKII also features dual MAN V12 1650 HP engines and dual Hamilton water jets, allowing it to reach speeds of up to 52 knots, surpassing the FIC MK I’s 50-knot maximum. Its operational range extends to 350 nautical miles when cruising at 35 knots. Designed to accommodate five crew members and eight additional personnel, the FIC MKII is built for multi-mission operations, including coastal patrol and surveillance, high-speed interception, clandestine missions, search and rescue (SAR), and rapid response missions.
