Global Medical Response (GMR) has signed an agreement with Airbus Helicopters for up to 15 H140 helicopters for emergency medical services (EMS). The order includes 10 confirmed units, with options for five more. GMR is among the launch customers for the H140, which was introduced at the VERTICON industry event in Dallas, Texas.
GMR, based in Lewisville, Texas, is one of the largest operators of Airbus helicopters in North America. “We are proud to offer this new helicopter design to our patients, caregivers and customers,” said Ted Van Horne, Chief Operating Officer of GMR. “Serving as the EMS launch partner for the Airbus H140 is just one more example of how GMR is investing in the future of care and continually innovating for the good of the communities we serve. In the hands of our experienced crews, the H140 will provide a better patient environment where they will continue to deliver critical acute care to patients who need it.”
Bruno Even, CEO of Airbus Helicopters, highlighted the long-standing partnership between the companies. “This announcement builds on decades of collaboration between our two companies, and we are excited to be introducing the H140 in the U.S. in partnership with such a renowned air medical operator,” he said. “We are confident the H140 will be an invaluable tool for the GMR team as they provide the highest levels of care for patients each day.”
The H140 is a light twin-engine helicopter in the 3-tonne class. It is designed for EMS, passenger transport, and private and business aviation. The aircraft features a T-shaped tail boom with an optimised Fenestron to reduce noise levels, a five-blade bearingless main rotor, and new Safran engines. The cabin is designed for accessibility, with large clamshell doors, a high tail boom for rear loading, and sliding doors for easy access. It can accommodate up to six passengers and supports various stretcher systems, including intensive care units and transport incubators. Entry into service for EMS operations is scheduled for 2028.
This agreement follows GMR’s previous order of 28 Airbus helicopters in November 2024. The company, which operates nearly 200 Airbus helicopters, runs 380 air base locations under brands such as Air Evac Lifeteam, REACH Air Medical Services, Med-Trans Corporation, AirMed International, and Guardian Flight. Since 2021, GMR has added more than 30 Airbus helicopters to its fleet. The organisation has approximately 35,000 employees providing medical care across the U.S. and internationally.
