India’s state-owned airframer Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is eyeing export prospects in the region for its Light Utility Helicopter (LUH) in civil configuration.
The LUH made its international show debut at the recent LIMA 2023 event in Langkawi.
HAL showcased a Limited Series Production (LSP) production of the helicopter, for the Indian Army, on the static display at the show. However, with an eye on the civil market for the three-tonne class helicopter, HAL has modified the LUH with four VIP seats.
A company official said that HAL is optimistic about the type’s prospects on the export market, once civil certification is obtained in India. HAL is presently exploring opportunities for the LUH in Malaysia as well.
The LUH made its maiden flight in September 2016. HAL is slated to complete production of all 12 LSP helicopters by 2024.
The LUH is powered by a single Safran Helicopter Engines Ardiden 1U turboshaft engine with dual channel FADEC and EACB.
In addition to its modern and powerful engine, the LUH is equipped with a modern glass cockpit which features a Smart Cockpit Display System and state-of-the-art Health & Usage Monitoring System (HUMS).
