Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is showcasing a mockup of a naval version of the Dhruv light helicopter in response to a Navy requirement for a utility helicopter.

The Dhruv Naval Utility Helicopter (NUH) features a folding main rotor and tail boom to meet navy requirements for the helicopter to be based on warships.

The Dhruv NUH can also be fitted with torpedoes, depth charges and missiles. The helicopter will be powered by two Shakti 1H1 engines which generate 1032 kW of power each.

An internal payload of 1200 kg, followed by an external payload of 1500 kg, is more than useful. A range of 700 km and fuel capacity of 1380 lt has been quoted.

With the main rotor and tail boom folded, the length, width and height of the Dhruv NUH will be 13.5 m, 3.5 m and 4.2 m respectively.

More than 260 Dhruv helicopters have been delivered by HAL, with the fleet having accumulated more than 2,00,000 flying hours.
