South Korea’s Hanwha Defence is displaying the upgraded K9A1, an improved version of its classic 155mm/52-calibre K9 Self Propelled Howitzer (SPH) at the ongoing EDEX, marking the North Africa show debut for the SPH. In addition to the K9A1, Hanwha Defence is also showcasing a new version of the Remoted Controlled Weapon Station (RCWS), and fifth generation Redback Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV) for the first time in Cairo. Hanwha Defence is the only company in South Korea to develop and produce RCWS of its own. The lightweight RCWS on display is fitted with K6 or K4 machine guns. The new RCWS variant can be integrated to tanks, armored vehicles, and light-tactical vehicles. The South Korean Navy and Marine Corps respectively have awarded Hanwha Defence with contracts to supply these RCWS for their highspeed patrol vessels and amphibious assault vehicles.
