Hanwha Aerospace is showcasing its newest Infantry Fighting Vehicle in the Korea-New IFV (K-NIFV) at the ongoing show. The K-NIFV is based on the Korean firm’s Redback IFV, which it touts as being amongst the most advanced IFVs globally. “Based on the Redback’s cutting-edge technology, Hanwha Aerospace is developing the K-NIFV, a next-generation armored vehicle for the ROK Army, providing the most advanced mission capabilities for mechanized infantry units in future battlefields,” a company official told Daily News.
Hanwha Aerospace is undertaking the development of the K-NIFV with the Korea Research Institute of Defense Technology Planning and Advancement. The new Korean IFV is expected to be a considerable advance over the Redback IFV which was selected for the Australian Army’s Land 400 Ph.3 programme and features a Mk. 44 30mm cannon & Spike LR.2 ATGM.
Based on the Redback’s cutting-edge technology, Hanwha Aerospace is developing the K-NIFV, a next-generation armored vehicle for the ROK Army, providing the most advanced mission capabilities for mechanized infantry units in future battlefields. As part of the K-NIFV Development Programme, Elbit’s MT-3030 (manned) turret will be replaced by HAS’s unmanned turret (30mm cannon / 40mm CTA gun). For hull protection, Plasan’s protection kit will be replaced by HAS’s complex mine protection kit (with domestic partners). The K-NIFV’s Active Protection System (APS) will be HSC’s K-APS (developed with KRIT) rather than the Redback’s Elbit Iron Fist APS. In terms of the Anti-Tank Guided Missile (ATGM) ATGM Rafael’s Spike LR2 will be replaced by HAS’s TApiers-L (HAS self-development).
While the K-NIFV’s design is subject to changes during development, optional additions could include Counter Unmanned Aerial Systems (C-UAS) capability, drone Reconnaissance and Manned-Unmanned Teaming (MUM-T)
