Hanwha Aims to Sell Biho-II

South Korea’s Hanwha Corporation is showcasing a model of Biho-II, the new and improved version of its modular short-range air-defence system. The next generation Biho-II (Flying Tiger) air defence system can be integrated on multiple combat vehicle and can fire multiple kinetic and non-kinetic weapons.

 

It also has a flexible and scalable turret configuration for engaging all kinds of threats, a company official says. Hanwha plans to offer Biho-II to potential foreign customers including the United States, Canada, India, the United Arab Emirates, and Egypt.

 

Hanwha aims to become the world’s top ten defence firms by increasing its arms sales to 12 trillion won (US$10.4 billion) by 2025. Biho-I is a self-propelled anti-air- craft defence system, which is under combat deployment for the Korean Army. It can contribute to reinforcement of anti-aircraft defence capacity for countries requiring low-altitude anti-aircraft weapon systems.

 

The 30mm twin self-propelled anti-air- craft defence system demonstrates excellent engagement capability under the battlefield conditions of the mountainous Korean peninsula. It has outstanding maneuverability with a maximum speed of 60km/h. Its effective range is 3 km and it has a high firing rate of 1,200rounds/minute. informs.

 

“Several countries in East Asia and the Middle East have shown keen interest in the system, which is currently in the last stages of its development,” he adds. Biho-II will feature two improved AESA radars, which will have a detecting range of 35 km and 15 km respectively. Biho-II is currently for export only, as the Republic of Korea Army does not have any pending requirement for new short-range air-defense system.
