Turkish defence firm HAVELSAN has signed a landmark cooperation agreement with Belgium-based flight simulation developer EURAMEC at the Eurosatory 2026 defence exhibition in Paris.

The partnership aims to jointly explore potential opportunities in simulation, training systems, and next-generation aviation technologies. Consequently, this alliance represents a major step forward for both companies as they seek to expand their footprint within competitive international aerospace markets.

The signing ceremony took place at the HAVELSAN stand during the second day of the exhibition, drawing significant interest from high-level international delegations. The ceremony was hosted by HAVELSAN President and Chief Executive Officer Dr Mehmet Akif Nacar and attended by Belgian Minister of Defence Theo Francken. Moreover, representatives from the Presidency of Defence Industries of Türkiye (SSB) also attended the event to endorse the industrial collaboration.

The Memorandum of Understanding outlines a framework for joint engineering and flight simulation development. This agreement signals a deeper integration between Turkish and European defence industries. Furthermore, international defence observers note that the collaboration will enhance both companies' capabilities in delivering high-fidelity training systems for modern military platforms.

Asia-Pacific Security Implications

While the contract directly connects European and Turkish markets, it carries profound strategic implications for the Asia-Pacific region. For instance, HAVELSAN has been aggressively expanding its footprint in Southeast Asia, notably securing contracts to modernise naval platforms for the Royal Malaysian Navy through partnerships with local yards. Additionally, the company successfully integrated its ADVENT Combat Management System into the Indonesian Navy's fast attack craft recently. Therefore, acquiring advanced European simulation technologies will immediately upgrade the training solutions HAVELSAN offers to its growing list of Asia-Pacific defence partners.

Industrial Flight Simulation Advancement

Under the framework, the two entities will integrate EURAMEC's specialised flight simulator architectures with HAVELSAN's robust command and control software. Currently, EURAMEC is recognised globally for its advanced pilot training modules, while HAVELSAN boasts extensive expertise in large-scale military simulation infrastructure. As a result, this combination will allow both firms to co-develop custom simulators for a wide range of fixed-wing and rotary platforms. Ultimately, this cooperative model will streamline manufacturing processes and strengthen the aerospace supply chain across both regions.

Strategic Aerospace Collaboration

The agreement has already received strong political endorsement from European leaders who view Türkiye as a vital aerospace partner. In a public statement, Belgian Defence Minister Theo Francken noted: "This partnership opens new opportunities for the company in Türkiye's growing and strategically important defense market," which reflects a growing western alignment with Turkish defence technology. From a broader geopolitical perspective, this deal showcases how mid-tier defence powers are increasingly forming independent technology-sharing alliances to mitigate supply chain dependencies on larger superpowers. Consequently, Southeast Asian nations can leverage these alternative aerospace partnerships to enhance their own technological sovereignty without becoming entangled in major power rivalries.
