Hawaiian Airlines has finalized an order for 10 787-9 Dreamliners, in addition to purchase rights for 10 more. The orders are valued at US$2.82 billion (at list prices).

The order confirms an earlier commitment for the aircraft made by Hawaiian in March.

“The Dreamliner’s operational performance and passenger-friendly cabin makes it an ideal aircraft to serve as our flagship aircraft of the future,” said Peter Ingram, president and chief executive officer of Hawaiian Airlines. “The aircraft provides Hawaiian with more seating capacity and greater range to expand within our current network and offer new destinations to and from Asia Pacific and North America.”

The 787-9 Dreamliner will serve on the carrier’s medium to long-haul routes.

The 787-9 has the ability to fly up to 14,140 kilometers with 290 passengers in a standard two-class configuration, while using 20 percent less fuel than older generation aircraft.

“We look forward to delivering the Dreamliner to Hawaiian and supporting them with integrated services to help them operate more efficiently and lower their costs,” said Kevin McAllister, president and chief executive officer of Boeing Commercial Airplanes.

Hawaiian Airlines’ new aircraft transition support services – such as Training and Initial Provisioning – will be provided by Boeing Global Services.
