German firearms manufacturer Heckler & Koch and South Korean gunmaker SNT Motiv have agreed to collaborate on the development of Seoul's next-generation rifle.

The agreement was signed on Tuesday on the sidelines of the Seoul International Aerospace & Defense Exhibition (ADEX) 2025 at KINTEX in Goyang, just northwest of Seoul, between Marco Geißinger, Chief Strategy Officer of Heckler & Koch GmbH, and Byeong-Wan Lee, Vice President of SNT Motiv.

Speaking at the ceremony, Geißinger said Heckland Koch has a long tradition of technical innovation and quality in the field of modern infantry weapons. “With this agreement, we are laying the foundation for a close and trustful cooperation to jointly develop the next generation of small arms for the Republic of Korea.”

He added: “We are confident that the combination of both companies' technological expertise will make an important contribution to strengthening defence capabilities and advancing industrial development.”

Heckler & Koch, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of small arms for police and special forces of NATO and its partner nations, produces pistols, submachine guns, assault rifles, precision rifles, machine guns, training systems, and 40 mm weapon platforms.
