Honeywell has announced an expansion of its involvement in Japan’s defence modernisation initiatives through the delivery of advanced aerospace systems for two major helicopter programmes. The latest contracts further strengthen the company’s presence in Japan’s defence sector and its support for operational readiness.
As the Japan Ministry of Defense upgrades its airborne capabilities, Honeywell is supplying both new and existing platforms with systems designed to improve aircraft power, navigation, safety, and situational awareness. The upgrades are intended to enhance reliability and performance in demanding operational environments.
For the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force’s ongoing modernisation of its H60 fleet, Honeywell will provide a range of systems this year. These include the 36-150 auxiliary power unit (APU), RDR-7000 weather radar, air turbine starter, embedded M-code GPS/INS (EGI), 60kVA generator, and LED lighting. A next-generation version of the APN-209 radar altimeter will also be delivered. The new systems are expected to replace ageing components and improve the fleet’s maintainability and mission effectiveness.
Honeywell will also support Japan’s new CH-47F heavy-lift helicopter programme, supplying a broad range of technologies. These include the T55-714A engine, 36-150 APU, 45kVA APU generator, M-code EGI, RDR-7000 radar, a next-generation APN-209 radar altimeter, and an LED searchlight. The equipment is aimed at enhancing the aircraft’s power and avionics capabilities for roles including tactical transport and humanitarian missions.
“Honeywell’s latest awards from the [Japan Ministry of Defense] mark a continued deepening of our relationship with the country’s defense forces and also underscore our role as a trusted provider of advanced aerospace technologies,” said Matt Milas, President, Defense and Space, Honeywell Aerospace Technologies. “With solutions that are designed to enhance the safety, capability, and mission success of military helicopter operations, we are proud to contribute to the next chapter of Japan’s defense modernization.”
Honeywell has a long track record of supplying mission-critical systems to military operators globally. The company continues to develop integrated technologies aimed at meeting the evolving requirements of defence forces operating in complex and highly connected environments.
