Hyundai WIA which is participating at the ongoing show along with Kia and Hyundai Rotem is showcasing its “Lightweight 105mm Self-Propelled Howitzer” mounted on a small tactical vehicle.

The new self-propelled howitzer weighs only approximately seven tonne, which is less than half the weight of the Republic of Korea Army’s existing 105mm self-propelled howitzer (17 tons).  Developed through the Defense Rapid Acquisition Technology Research Institute Rapid R&D project, this howitzer offers enhanced range and mobility compared to its predecessor.

The lightweight SPH can engage targets out to ranges of 18 km.

Displayed at the along with the vehicle mounted howitzer was a fire control and command vehicle and an ammunition transport vehicle.

This ensures that the mounted artillery system is able to be brought into and out of firing conditions rapidly.

It can also be transported as a underslung load by helicopter.

The company is leveraging its extensive experience and advanced technology accumulated from supplying large-caliber artillery guns for the K2 main battle tank and K9 self-propelled howitzer to promote its mobility-based artillery systems worldwide
