IAF Develops New Weapon to Destroy Terror Tunnels from Air

: Sep 11, 2019 - : 3:33 am

The Israeli Airforce (IAF) with the Israeli Defence Industries have developed new weapon systems that enable the destruction of terror tunnels from the air.

In recent months, the IAF has destroyed a number of tunnels.

Anti-tunnel airstrikes are performed when the tunnels have not crossed the separation line between Israel and the Gaza strip.

The aerial raids on the tunnels are based on very accurate intelligence collected by the Israeli defence forces (IDF).

The IAF has started destroying tunnels from the air a few months ago.

Sources in Gaza said that the air raids hit the tunnels very accurately.

There are no details about the weapons used, but the IAF has last year started to use the Rafael Spice-1000 accurate bombs on its fighter aircraft. Sources said that there are some other weapon systems used for the mission.

The IAF has integrated the Spice 1000 precision bomb on its Lockheed Martin F-16 C/D.

The Spice-1000 is actually a 1000lb bomb equipped with a guidance kit.

The Spice-1000 has pop-out wings that extend its range to over 100 km.

Israeli sources say that the Spice-1000 is also carried by the Lockheed Martin F-35.

The sources said that the special weapon systems developed for the tunnel destruction mission have special “effects”. These are highly classified.
