IAF to Test the CH-53 K

: Sep 16, 2019 - : 5:15 am

The Israeli Airforce (IAF) will start the final evaluation of the Lockheed Martin ch-53 K before the end of the month in the US Naval Air Station Patuxent River.

The teams will include test pilots, maintenance experts and other experts and will visit the US navy that operates the CH-53 K, and the Army that operates the Chinook.

The plan is to get an opportunity to test the CH-53K already delivered and the 4 pre-production versions.

The IAF has requested to fly the heavy helicopter in a number of different patterns.

After the teams get back home, they will prepare comprehensive reports that will include all the aspects like capabilities, availability and life cycle cost.

The reports will be submitted to the new Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) chief of general staff lt. General Aviv Kochavi. He will also get data about the competition the Boeing CH-47.

The ground forces command of the IDF want a quick decision on the new heavy helicopter to replace the old CH-53.
