Iberia Maintenance to Return 29 Aircraft Back into Service for its Group

Our Bureau - : Jun 3, 2021 - : 11:37 am

With Iberia set to resume flights to several summer destinations in June, Iberia Maintenance is working on returning into service 29 A320 family aircraft for Iberia Group. While 23  will be used by Iberia, Iberia Express will fly six of the aircraft.

The 29 aircraft are among the 46 IAG Group and third-party customer airplanes and their engines  that the MRO company is getting ready for resumption of service. During the pandemic when many aircraft were grounded, Iberia Maintenance has assisted more than 150 aircraft by offering preservation services in Madrid, Palma de Mallorca, Malaga, and Seville.

Several days of work are required for an aircraft to be operational again, according to the maintenance programs of each operator. Checks are required for engines, hydraulic systems, avionics and other essential elements such as landing gear, brakes and wheels. In some aircraft, it will also be necessary to carry out heavy maintenance work at the Iberia Maintenance facilities in La Muñoza, as the aircraft’s entry into service coincides with the recurrent overhaul scheduled for the aircraft.

To deal with the increased demand for resumption of service by grounded aircraft, Iberia Maintenance has developed a mobile application – RTO.com – for operators to check the availability of days and book overhaul slots. The company is also working on converting three A330s that had been used as freighters back to their original configuration as passenger planes.
