India’s Defence Procurement Board (DPB) has approved the procurement of an estimated 16,000 Telescopic Sights for 7.62 x 51mm Light Machine Gun (LMG) with grant of Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) to the Indian Army.
The tentative date of issue of a Request for Proposal (RFP) is March 2021.
Approximately 16,000 telescopic sights are required to be delivered within 6-24 months of contract signature.
The RFI for the LMG telescopic sights was initially floated in July 2018 and responses were received for the same.
However, no response was received from any Indian vendor for the requirement.
The Army is now seeking participation from additional firms for the tender.
“With the view to identify additional vendors who had not responded to RFI earlier, OEMs/Vendors are requested to forward detailed information on the product which they can offer,” the new RFI states.
A light weight and ruggedized Telescopic Sight to enable accurate engagement of targets with a 7.62x51mm LMG has been called for.
Weight of the telescopic sight should not be more than 650gm + 10% (with mounting bracket and battery).
An effective range of 800m and maximum magnification of 5X has been called for.
