India’s state owned airframer, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has announced the successful completion of all weapon integration tests, for the indigenously developed Light Combat Helicopter (LCH) clearing the way for its operational induction.
The LCH successfully carried out an air to air missile firing using MBDA’s Mistral ATAM, where a direct hit was achieved on a moving aerial target.
“This is the first time in the country that a helicopter has carried out an air to air missile engagement,” said R Madhavan, CMD-HAL says.
The firing trials of the 20mm Turret gun and 70 mm Rockets were completed in 2018.
The LCH is the only attack helicopter in the world capable of operating at altitudes as high as Siachen glacier.
Production approval has been accorded for the manufacture of an initial batch of 10 LCH for the air force and 5 for the army.
