The EW suites have been indigenously designed and developed by the DRDO lab, Combat Aircraft Systems Development & Integration Centre (CASDIC). It comprises Radar Warning Receiver (RWR), Missile Approach Warning System (MAWS) and Counter Measure Dispensing System (CMDS).
An MoD official said, the new EW suites will significantly enhance the combat-survivability of IAF helicopters while undertaking operational missions against adversaries — ground-based as well as airborne radars and heat-seeking, shoulder-fired missiles with effective countermeasures.
BEL has also obtained a maintenance contract for two Akash SAM squadrons. The Akash Missile System is a medium-range, surface-to-air missile (SAM) system, developed by DRDO and manufactured by BEL. The SAM system is supplied with a Surveillance Radar, Fire Control Radar, Control and Command Centre developed by BEL. The Akash Missile system can target aircraft up to 30 km away.

According to company officials, the state-of-the-art radios have been indigenously developed, jointly by the DRDO and BEL and are available in three configurations viz. A company official stated that the equipment incorporates advanced DSP technology with inbuilt high grade encryption. BEL has productionised the equipment under with ToT from the DRDO.
BEL will also supply 12 units of the Sarang ESM system which will be installed on Kamov 31 Helicopters of the Indian Navy. The ESM system intercepts, detects and identifies radar emitters comprising state-of-the-art technologies.
