Indo Defence 2018 is Indonesia’s No. 1 Tri-Service Defence event and will be held from 7 – 10 November at Jakarta International Expo Kemayoran, Indonesia. This will be the eight edition of the tri-service exhibition, which has grown steadily since inception.
Asian Defence Technology spoke with Prof. Dr. Ir Bondan Tiara Sofyan, M.Si. Director General Defence Potential, Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Indonesia, who took charge in April and discussed the Indonesia’s defence ambitions at the recently concluded DSA 2018 show in KL, Malaysia.
The Indonesian participation at the show was very well received, according to Sofyan, “As the new Director General of Defence Potential for Indonesia, it was a very educative experience for me to participate at DSA. We also promoted our own show, Indo Defence 2018, as a result the quality of interactions with key partners from the military and industry have been very useful for us.”
“As DG Defence Potential, I look after the non-military support for the defence of Indonesia. We look after the defence industry, reserve components and build-up of state defence. This is apart from the military preparedness, which is undertaken by the armed forces. We are working hard to increase the products from our indigenous defence industry which are used by our military. If only the military is involved with the defence of the country, it will be a difficult task, hence as DG Defence Potential, our job is to ensure that the civil population is also equipped and trained for the defence of the country, should the need ever arise,” Sofyan says.
“Indonesia is a regular participant at DSA and we always support DSA because we are in the same region and we have to support each other. DSA is also the ideal platform for us to showcase our defence products and we know that DSA is growing bigger. We were very happy with the response to Indonesian defence products at DSA and are hoping that it will translate into further sales of our defence products as well. This is our ultimate goal,” stresses Sofyan.
Sofyan also complimented the organizers of DSA 2018, highlighting the quality and number of exhibitors and also the new arrangements made as a result of the shift to the new venue.
