Indo Defence 2024 has officially opened its doors in Jakarta, marking the 10th edition of this landmark defence and security exhibition. Running from 11 to 14 June at the Jakarta International Expo, the event underscores Indonesia’s ambition to play a central role in fostering defence partnerships in Southeast Asia and beyond, under the theme “Defence Partnership For Global Peace & Stability.”
Originally scheduled for 2024, the event was deferred to accommodate the new Indonesian leadership, highlighting its significance in the country’s national agenda. Indo Defence has grown into one of the largest and most influential defence expositions in the world, and this year’s event reaffirms its status as a key gathering point for the defence and security community.
The scale of Indo Defence 2024 reflects its global reach: 1,180 exhibitors from 55 countries have converged in Jakarta, comprising 659 international and 521 local companies. In addition to individual exhibitors, the event features 32 country pavilions, offering a diverse showcase of defence technologies and national capabilities. The exhibition spans a total of 70,000 square metres, spread across seven halls—A, B, B3, C, C3, D, and F—and outdoor spaces dedicated to static and dynamic displays, including live demonstrations of defence platforms and technologies. This expansive layout allows exhibitors to showcase the breadth of modern defence capabilities, from advanced aerospace systems to integrated cyber-defence solutions.
In terms of high-level representation, Indo Defence 2024 attracts a notable roster of foreign officials, including 13 ministers, five vice-ministers, 10 chiefs of defence forces, eight chiefs of staff from five countries, and delegations from more than 25 countries. This international presence underscores the show’s diplomatic and strategic relevance, reflecting its growing role as a venue for international dialogue, bilateral and multilateral cooperation, and potential defence procurement discussions.
The Indonesian delegation at the opening ceremony is being led by President Prabowo Subianto, supported by Minister of Defence Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin, Commander of the Indonesian National Armed Forces General Agus Subiyanto, and the chiefs of staff from the Indonesian Army, Navy, and Air Force. Their presence reaffirms Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening its national defence industry and its role as a regional leader in promoting peace and stability through defence partnerships.
Indo Defence 2024 also shines a spotlight on Indonesia’s own defence industry, featuring prominent state-owned enterprises such as PT Dirgantara Indonesia (aircraft manufacturing), PT Pindad (land systems and ammunition), PT PAL (naval shipbuilding), PT Dahana (explosives and propellants), and PT LEN (electronics and communications). These companies are eager to showcase their latest developments, many of which have been geared towards meeting both domestic and export requirements.
In addition, Indonesia’s private defence sector is well represented, with companies such as PT Infoglobal (avionics and integrated systems), PT Lundin Industry Invest (composite fast craft and vessels), PT Sari Bahari (munitions and defence systems), and PT SSE (engineering solutions), among others. This blend of public and private sector participation highlights Indonesia’s growing ecosystem of defence innovation and its ambition to become a reliable partner for international collaboration.
The event is structured to maximise its impact: from 11 to 13 June, the exhibition is restricted to government officials and defence industry representatives, ensuring focused discussions on procurement, technology transfer, and partnership opportunities. On the final day, 14 June, the event opens its doors to the general public, providing a rare opportunity for broader engagement and public education on defence and security matters.
Indo Defence 2024 aims not just to showcase hardware and technology, but also to promote dialogue and partnerships that can contribute to regional and global peace. Organisers express hope that the show will serve as a platform to deepen cooperation, exchange ideas, and build networks that transcend borders, ultimately supporting the shared goal of regional stability and global peace.
As the 10th edition unfolds, Indo Defence stands as a testament to the growing importance of Southeast Asia in the global defence landscape—one that is increasingly interconnected, collaborative, and essential to shaping the future of regional and international security.
