Indonesian Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin has handed over 700 Maung MV3 special vehicles, produced by PT Pindad, to the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) and the National Police (Polri) for operational use.

The handover took place at Husein Sastranegara Air Base in Bandung, West Java, on Saturday (Mar. 1). Sjafrie described the event as a significant milestone in the use of domestically produced defence equipment.

“There are quite a lot, around 4,000 units in total, but we are distributing them in stages according to production capacity,” he said during a press conference after the event, as quoted by the Indonesian news agency, Antara.

The 700 vehicles are allocated as follows: 50 units for TNI Headquarters, 400 for the Army, 100 for the Navy, 100 for the Air Force, and 50 for the National Police. Sjafrie stated that the handover reflects the progress of Indonesia’s defence industry in strengthening national security and stability. He added that the government remains committed to providing operational support for TNI and Polri.

The Maung MV3 was developed as a standard operational vehicle for Indonesian government officials, the military, and the police. It is the third iteration of the Maung 4x4 series, with each version based on a different vehicle platform. The first and second versions were developed using the Toyota Hilux and Isuzu D-Max, respectively, while the Maung MV3 is based on the SsangYong Rexton.

PT Pindad plans to produce different versions of the vehicle tailored to the operational requirements of TNI and Polri. The company also has developed a special “Maung MV3 Garuda” presidential limousine for Indonesia’s head of state.
