Indonesia and Turkiye have strengthened their defence cooperation with the signing of a Joint Venture (JV) agreement between Turkish company Baykar Makina, and Indonesian defence industry holding company PT Republik Korpora Indonesia (Republikorp), in Jakarta, Wednesday (Feb. 12). The agreements were signed in the presence of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, highlighting both nations' commitment to local defence manufacturing and technology transfer.
The agreement between Baykar Makina and Republikorp focuses on establishing a Joint Venture Company (JVC) in Indonesia for the production, assembly, and maintenance of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The partnership involves localising 60 units of the Medium-Altitude Long-Endurance (MALE) TB3 Bayraktar UAV and nine units of the High-Altitude Long-Endurance (HALE) Akinci Bayraktar UAV.
Baykar Makina CEO Haluk Bayraktar stated that the company would contribute its expertise in manufacturing, technology transfer, and training. Republikorp, under Chairman Norman Joesoef, will oversee regulatory compliance, infrastructure development, workforce certification, and integration into Indonesia’s defence sector. The collaboration is expected to enhance Indonesia’s surveillance, security, and defence capabilities while fostering UAV innovation and research at a regional level.
The agreement is supported by Indonesia’s Ministry of Defence and Turkiye’s Defence Industries, with Indonesian Defence Minister Sjafrie Sjamsoeddin and Turkish Defence Industries Secretary Haluk Görgün attending the signing ceremony. The initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance defence self-sufficiency and strengthen bilateral relations between Indonesia and Turkiye.
