Indonesia is evaluating South Korea’s LIG Nex1 KGGB (Korean GPS-Guided Bomb) wing kit after its first known combat use by Thailand during the recent Cambodia–Thailand border conflict. The system, which converts conventional Mk 82 general-purpose bombs into long-range precision munitions, drew Indonesian interest following its operational debut in July 2025.
The Indonesian Air Force (TNI-AU) requested a formal presentation from LIG Nex1, which took place in Jakarta on 30 September and was attended by senior TNI-AU officials, including representatives from the strategic planning unit and several wing commanders. The weapon is compatible with Indonesia’s existing F-16 fleet and the future KF-21 fighter jets currently on order from South Korea.
The KGGB is a precision-guided glide bomb kit jointly developed by South Korea’s Agency for Defense Development (ADD) and LIG Nex1. It equips the Mk 82 bomb with a guidance module and foldable wings, enabling it to glide significant distances without propulsion. The system integrates GPS-based satellite navigation with an inertial navigation system (INS), providing high accuracy in both fixed-coordinate and loitering attack modes. Its flaperon control surfaces combine pitch and yaw control, eliminating the need for traditional tail fins and allowing for greater manoeuvrability during flight.
Two flight control modes are available: a circular mode, which enables the bomb to loiter over a target area before initiating its final attack run, and a waypoint mode, in which it follows a predetermined flight path to strike specific coordinates. These features collectively allow aircraft to release the weapon from safer standoff ranges while maintaining high precision against ground targets.
The Royal Thai Air Force was the first to employ the KGGB in combat, launching Mk 82 bombs equipped with the kit from F-16s against Cambodian military installations, including command posts, ammunition depots, and BM-21 Grad multiple rocket launcher systems. The strike marked the KGGB’s operational debut and demonstrated its effectiveness under real combat conditions.
