The Indonesian Navy Marine Corps (Korps Marinir TNI AL) recently carried out live firing tests of the Norinco Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) 90B and 35 mm Twin Gun anti-aircraft artillery at the Cibenda training area in Sukabumi, West Java. The exercises took place on 27 and 28 May 2025 and aimed to verify the operational readiness and effectiveness of these modern weapon systems.
The MLRS 90B, featuring a 122 mm caliber and 40 rocket launchers capable of salvo fire, is designed for rapid, large-scale destruction of ground targets. The system incorporates computer-controlled, semi-automatic, and manual firing modes, with a maximum effective range of 7 kilometers. During testing, the MLRS demonstrated the ability to destroy targets covering an area of one hectare within eight seconds.
The 35 mm Twin Gun is an anti-aircraft artillery system intended to defend against aerial threats. Both weapons are produced by Norinco, a Chinese defense manufacturer.
The live firing exercises were conducted safely and successfully, with all targets destroyed as intended. The tests reaffirmed the readiness of the Marine Corps’ artillery units to support future operational assignments. Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Dr. Muhammad Ali has consistently emphasised the importance of maintaining combat readiness among naval personnel to respond effectively to potential threats.
