An Indonesian Navy Delegation recently attended the First Keel-Laying Ceremony (Keel Laying) of the KCR 70 Fast Attack Craft (FAC) at Sefine Shipyard, Türkiye. Indonesia has two FACs on order, which join its fleet next year.
Based on Sefine Shipyard’s FACM-70 design, the KCR-70 is a 70-metre fast attack craft designed for a variety of missions, including intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) operations, anti-surface warfare, and anti-air warfare.
Present at the ceremony was the Head of the Indonesian Ministry of Defense's Baranahan Communication Center, Brigadier General Mohamad Leo Pola Ardiansa representing the Ministry of Defense's Kabaranahan. The Indonesian Navy delegation attending were the Waaslog Chief of Naval Staff Rear Admiral Aji Normanihadi, the Head of the Naval Staff Rear Admiral Suryaman, the Head of the Naval Staff Rear Admiral Ifa Djaya Sakti, and the Commander of the Yekda KCR Full Combat Mission Task Force, Navy Colonel (P) I Gede Dharma Yoga.
The keel laying is one of the four main milestones in the construction of a warship, which consists of the initial cutting of the ship's steel (first steel cutting), laying the keel (keel laying), launching the ship (launching), and naming the ship (ship naming).
"I hope that today's Keel Laying is not just a technical procession, but also becomes a strong foundation for strengthening relations between Indonesia and Turkey, especially in defense cooperation and the maritime industry," said the Head of the Ministry of Defense's Baranahan Center in his remarks read by the Head of the Ministry of Defense's Baranahan Center, Brigadier General Mohamad Leo Pola Ardiansa.
Closing his remarks, the Head of the Ministry of Defence expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the President Director of TAIS Shipyards and the Yekda KCR Full Combat Mission Task Force, as well as all related parties who supported the implementation of this collaboration as part of a joint commitment to maintain regional stability and security.
The KCR-70 displaces 850 tonnes and is capable of reaching speeds in excess of 40 knots. With a range of 1,600 nautical miles and an endurance of seven days, these vessels are can perform extended missions in diverse operational environments.
