The Korean automaker is displaying a military variant of the Kia Tasman, the automakers first pickup truck, at the ongoing ADEX. In addition to the Tasman, Kia is also displaying its ‘Medium Duty Chassis’.
The Tasman on display has received a desert-coloured paint scheme, indicating Kia’s target market in the Middle East and Africa, including elements like a front bumper. Speaking to GBP Daily News, a Kia official said that development of the Tasman’s military variant was nearly complete. He said that the automaker was in discussions with the Korean military and that it was also in discussions with potential export customers.
The Kia Tasman-based Military Customized Product solution will be available in four variants; cargo, van body, flatbed and as a bare chassis.
Kia has been developing and deploying light tactical vehicles since 2016, which have also been exported to Nigeria, Turkmenistan, and the Philippines, to name a few customers. The company has already exported tens of thousands of military vehicles to over 20 countries. Amongst its most important recent orders was from Poland, which has opted for the KLTV platform. Kia delivered another batch of 14 vehicles in August 2024 to Rosomak S.A.
Poland is to acquire approximately 400 of the Light Reconnaissance Vehicles, which is based on an armoured version of Kia’s KLTV (K153). Kia received the Polish contract for the vehicles in 2023; the deal is worth approximately US$290 million.
