The highlight of the Japanese presence at the ongoing show is the large scale model of Japan’s latest military helicopter the UH-2 utility helicopter.
According to Japan’s Defence Equipment Agency, the UH-2 is able to handle rescue operations at higher altitudes than its predecessor, the UH-1J.
The UH-2 utility helicopter is produced by Subaru of Japan for the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF). It recently delivered a new UH-2 to the JGSDF in June at its Aerospace Company Utsunomiya Plant, Tochigi Prefecture, Japan.
The New Utility Helicopter (UH-2) was developed leveraging the Subaru Bell 412EPX which is state-of-the-art civilian helicopter.
The same platform was remodelled for Japan’s Ministry of Defence specification.
Flight tests of the New Utility Helicopter began in May 2022, following which it passed a series of company flight tests, and finally it got Japan Ministry of Defence’s approval for delivery.
