Japanese carrier Skymark Airlines will lease seven additional Boeing 737-10 aircraft from Aviation Capital Group (ACG) as part of its fleet modernization and capacity expansion plans, the lessor announced at the Farnborough International Airshow.
The aircraft will be delivered from ACG's existing Boeing order book beginning in 2028 under a dry lease agreement.
The new jets will support Skymark's strategy to replace its older Boeing 737-800 fleet while increasing capacity on high-demand domestic routes from Tokyo Haneda Airport, one of Japan's busiest aviation hubs.
Skymark plans to configure each 737-10 with 207 seats, compared with 177 seats on its current 737-800s and 737-8 aircraft, allowing the airline to carry about 17% more passengers per flight.
According to the airline's fleet plan released in May, the larger 737-10 is also expected to reduce fuel costs per seat by about 19% compared with the 737-800, improving operating efficiency as airlines seek to lower costs and emissions.
The carrier is gradually replacing its aging narrowbody fleet with Boeing's latest-generation 737 MAX aircraft. Skymark took delivery of Japan's first 737-8 in April and launched commercial service on the Tokyo Haneda–Fukuoka route in May.
According to aviation data provider ch-aviation, Skymark now has outstanding orders for seven 737-10s and seven 737-8s from Boeing, in addition to lease commitments for six more 737-8s.
The airline currently operates one Boeing 737-8 and 29 Boeing 737-800s, with the latest lease agreement underscoring continued demand for fuel-efficient narrowbody aircraft as carriers modernize fleets and expand post-pandemic travel capacity.
