Langkawi Venue for New Cyber Warfare Conference – CYDES 2020

The inaugural edition of Cyber Defence & Security, Exhibition & Conference (CYDES 2020), will take place next year at the Mahsuri International Exhibition Centre in Langkawi, Kedah. The three-day event is scheduled to be a biennial event and CYDES 2020 will complement the biannual, Langkawi International Maritime and Aerospace Show or LIMA.

Alpine Integrated Technologies Sdn Bhd will be the organiser of the event, which will feature the inaugural Perdana ASEAN Cyber Talk (PACT). ASEAN delegates invited to attend CYDES 2020 include Ministers of Defence, Ministers of Digital Economy, Chiefs of Defence Force and Intelligence Chiefs. A recent survey undertaken by a United Kingdom-based technology research firm, Comparitech ranked six countries in Southeast Asia as the best and worst in the cyber security landscape. The study covered 60 countries worldwide. Expenditure on cyber security is also projected to increase to USD5.45 billion or RM22.13 billion by 2025.

Amongst the countries that are slated to attend, are ASEAN countries including Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia. 10 international pavilions are expected from Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, USA, India, Japan, Malaysia, Oman, Singapore and South Korea. The organizers are confident of attracting approximately, 300 cyber technology exhibitors, both from the defence or security sectors who will be invited to showcase their latest technology.

Malaysia is gearing up to deal with cyber warfare and has set-up the Malaysian Armed Forces Cyber ​​Defence Operational Centre (ATM CDOC), which is responsible for monitoring cyber threats against its defence system.

Malaysia already hosts cyber security related high-level conferences such as the ASEAN Ministerial Conference on Cyber ​​Security and the ASEAN Defence Ministers Meeting PLUS (ADMM-PLUS).
