In an indication of the growing importance of Mexico and the Latin American region in the spheres of aerospace and defence, more than 35 US exhibitors, representing a wide range of military and commercial aircraft, equipment and services, are attending the third edition of FAMEX.
Most of the companies will be exhibiting in the USA Partnership Pavilion, organized by Kallman Worldwide, Inc., in coordination with government agencies such as the US departments of Commerce, Defense, State and Transportation.
The pavilion made its debut at the second edition of FAMEX, in 2017.Twenty-one companies are exhibiting in the USA Partnership Pavilion, 16 for the first time at the event. The companies represent 11 states, including the Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina, which features state-based co-exhibitors on its stand within the larger US space. The pavilion is located in Pabellon D, on the Santa Lucia Air Base show grounds FAMEX provides an “outstanding opportunity” to connect US government personnel with our foreign partners and representatives from defense industry,” says US Army Lt. Gen. Charles Hooper, Director of the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA).
“We look forward to discussing how security cooperation programs such as Humanitarian Assistance, Foreign Military Sales [FMS], and Institutional Capacity Building strengthen our alliances and partnerships, and meeting with representatives from defense industry to discuss DSCA’s role in helping them navigate the FMS process.”
“Now more than ever, success in international trade comes from partnership and teamwork,” says Tom Kallman, Kallman Worldwide President and CEO. “The USA Partnership Pavilion at FAMEX 2019 sharpens our focus on helping advance US national interests and security by building stronger relationships with our Latin American customers.”
One of the US companies making their debut at the event is FLIR Systems, Inc. “We chose to exhibit for the first time at FAMEX this year due to the changing structure and focus of Mexico’s military, public security, and police organizations,” says Rory Forsythe, Director of Business Development for Integrated Airborne Systems at FLIR Systems, Inc. “Our objective is to ensure we are doing everything we can to support existing customers who have traditionally relied on FLIR’s products to meet their requirements, and to introduce FLIR to new personnel and organizations who will be responsible for these missions in Mexico going forward.”
Jim Simpson, Quality Manager for De-Comp Composites, is targeting the growing manufacturing base for aero-space materials. “The composite and aerospace industries are growing rapidly in Mexico, and we feel this is the best time to get our name and products out into this market,” he says.
AeroVironment, a leading global drone supplier, has “a strong interest in sup-porting the Mexican and Latin American governments in a variety of unmanned systems initiatives including border security, infrastructure monitoring, oil and gas, public safety, and military missions,” says Milton Quiros, the company’s director of international business development.
“We are very excited to be first time exhibitors at FAMEX,” he adds. Mexico is the sixth-biggest exporter of aerospace parts to the US, the world’s largest aerospace market. The country has climbed steadily up the ladder and has gone from being the number ten sup-plier to the US’ aerospace sector to sixth. Industry experts believe that the country is poised to improve its position even further in the next decade.
